Alexej von Jawlensky in Ascona

The exhibition traces the period that the Russian artist Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941) spent in Ticino and the set up includes two works of art realised by Jawlensky in the first years after his transfer to Ticino (Variation: Gewitterstimmung from 1916 and Abstrakter Kopf: Arabisches Märchen from 1933) on loan from the Fondazione Gabriele e Anna Braglia.

Two paintings by Marc Chagall from the collection of the Gabriele and Anna Braglia Foundation (Le rabbin en hiver, 1978 and La lune verte dans la neige, 1948-1950) enrich the display of 60 works by Chagall dedicated to the pastoral loves of Daphnis and Chloes.

Since the exhibition in Winterthur in 1975, the exhibition Swiss Expressionism presents for the first time the various artists and the impetuous impact of their work in a national survey of first-class works.
The Fondazione Gabriele e Anna Braglia is contributing to the project with the loan of two paintings by Alexej von Jawlensky made in the first years after he moved to Ticino (Variation: Gewitterstimmung of 1916 and Abstrakter Kopf: Arabisches Märchen of 1925) and the work Das Duell by the Russian painter Marianne von Werefkin of 1933, in which the mountain becomes a place where human limits are tested.

The exhibition presented forty artworks including five works on loan from Fondazione Braglia’s collection, as the important painting ‘Vier Badende mit Lebensbäumen‘ from 1910, together with the oil on wood Drei Mädchen mit weissen Haarschleifen from 1914 and other three drawings.

Paul Klee. Landscapes

Fondazione Braglia collaborated with the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See for the exhibition dedicated to Paul Klee's landscapes, including thirteen of the artist's works from Fondazione Braglia's collection.

The Fondazione Gabriele e Anna Braglia participated with the loan of August Macke Badende mit Lebensbäumen (Bathers with Trees of Life) an oil on canvas dated 1910 (46 x 38 cm) and with Bauernhof bei Murnau (Farm near Murnau) by Gabriele Münter, an oil on cardboard dated 1911 (32.9 x 44.7 cm).
